Free ATS Resume Checker
Score your resume out of 100
Upload your PDF or Word resume and see your score in seconds — along with the exact points you are losing and how to get them back.
A score, a band, and a checklist of every single thing costing you points — contact details, dated roles, bullets without numbers, a layout the software cannot read. Each one links to the fix.
What an ATS actually does to your resume
Most companies of any size run applications through an applicant tracking system before a person opens them. The software pulls your resume apart into fields — name, email, job titles, dates, skills — and files it. A recruiter then searches those fields.
The problem is that it reads plain text under headings it recognises, and quietly mangles everything else. Two columns get interleaved into nonsense. A table turns into a jumble. Text inside an image is invisible to it. Your name sitting in a header box can be dropped entirely.
Nobody tells you when this happens. Your application simply never surfaces in the recruiter's search, and you assume you were not good enough. Usually you were — your resume just could not be read.
How the 100 points are calculated
No black box. This is the whole scoring sheet, and the checker shows you exactly where you stand on each line.
| What is checked | Why it matters | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Contact details | Name, email, phone, location and LinkedIn — the fields the system files you under. A missing email makes you unsearchable. | 14 |
| Experience quality | Every role needs a title, a company and a start date. Undated roles are the single most common parsing failure. | 18 |
| Layout & format | Single column, standard headings, no photo. This is what decides whether the parser reads you correctly at all. | 14 |
| Numbers in bullets | Roughly half your bullets should carry a figure — a percentage, an amount, a count. This is what a recruiter reads for. | 12 |
| Essential sections | Summary, work experience and education, under headings the software expects to find. | 12 |
| Skills & keywords | At least eight real skills, and how well they match a job description if you paste one in. | 12 |
| Action verbs | Bullets that open with a verb — built, led, cut, launched — rather than "responsible for". | 8 |
| Length | Around 320 to 880 words, with no single bullet running past about 34 words. | 10 |
What your score means
Takes about 30 seconds. You will see your number and the full checklist immediately.

The prettiest resumes fail here. A parser reading left to right across two columns produces interleaved nonsense — your skills end up inside your job titles. Use one column. Every time.
If a job has no start date the system often cannot place it on your timeline, and a recruiter filtering by years of experience never sees you. Give every role a title, a company and a start date.
"Responsible for handling the monthly close" says nothing. "Cut the monthly close from nine days to four" is checkable and memorable. Aim for a figure in about half your bullets.
Photos are commonly mis-parsed and are not expected on most Indian corporate resumes. And a heading like "My Journey" means nothing to a parser looking for "Work Experience".
The system compares your resume against the job description before anyone reads it. Paste the advertisement into the checker and it will show you which of its terms are genuinely missing from your resume.
Common questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Scoring your resume, seeing every point you are losing, fixing it and previewing it across all 15 templates costs nothing and needs no account. You only pay if you choose to download the finished PDF or DOCX.
Does my resume get uploaded to your server?
The file itself never leaves your device — your browser opens and reads it locally. Only the extracted text is sent for structuring into fields, it is processed in memory and returned, and no copy is stored in any database. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
What counts as a good ATS score?
Above 90 is excellent, 75 to 89 is good and safe to send, 60 to 74 is fair and usually fixable in a few minutes, and below 60 means something structural is wrong — commonly a two-column layout, missing dates, or bullets with no numbers in them.
Which file types can I check?
PDF and Word files, including .doc and .docx. A scanned or photographed resume will not work, because there is no selectable text to read — if your PDF is an image, you will need to type the content in instead, or start from scratch.
Will a high score get me the interview?
No, and any tool claiming otherwise is overselling. The score measures whether screening software can read your resume correctly and whether it follows the conventions recruiters expect. It cannot judge whether you match a particular job. What it does is stop you being filtered out before a human ever reads you.
Check your score, fix what it finds, and rebuild across 15 recruiter-tested templates — all free. You only pay when you download.
