Staff Nurse Resume Format — Example You Can Copy
Nursing shortlists start with two facts: your council registration and the ward you have actually worked. Everything else — patient load, specialisation, equipment handled — is read as evidence of how independently you can work a shift.

Use this format freeWhat recruiters look for in a staff nurse resume
- Put your council registration number and state near the top. It is the first fact a nursing recruiter verifies, and its absence stalls the application.
- Name the ward and the bed strength of the hospital. ICU, NICU, OT, emergency and general ward are different skill sets, and a 50-bed nursing home is a different job from a 500-bed tertiary centre.
- List the equipment you operate independently — ventilator, defibrillator, infusion pump, cardiac monitor. This is what tells a matron your level.
- Include BLS or ACLS certification with validity year if you hold it. It is a common shortlist filter and expires, so the year matters.
- Mention languages you speak. Patient communication is a real job requirement and regional language fluency frequently decides the hire.
ATS keywords for staff nurse roles
Applicant tracking systems match your resume against the job description before a person ever opens it. These are the terms that show up most often in staff nurse postings — use the ones that are genuinely true of you, in your own bullet points rather than in a keyword dump.
Common questions
What must be on a staff nurse resume in India?
Your qualification (GNM, B.Sc or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing), your state nursing council registration number, the wards you have worked with bed strength, and any BLS or ACLS certification with its validity year. Missing registration details is the most common reason a nursing application stalls at screening.
How do I show ICU or specialty experience?
State the unit, how long you worked it, the bed assignment you personally handled, and the equipment you operate without supervision. "3 years ICU, 6-bed assignment, independent on ventilator and cardiac monitor" tells a nursing superintendent exactly where to place you.
Do freshers need experience for a staff nurse role?
No. Clinical rotations during GNM or B.Sc count as real experience and should be written that way — name each department, the duration, and the procedures you assisted or performed. Internship postings and any hospital training period belong in the same section.
