- Decide which analyst you are — process and requirements, or data and reporting — and make the summary say so. Trying to look like both makes you look like neither.
- Name the domain. Fintech, healthcare, logistics and retail analysts are hired separately, and domain knowledge is often the deciding factor.
- Quantify what changed in the business, not how many documents you produced. A BRD count is output; hours removed and errors prevented are outcomes.
- List SQL if you have it. Many business analyst postings now screen for it even when the role is requirements-led.
- Name your tools — JIRA, Confluence, Visio, Figma. These are direct match terms in most BA job descriptions.

What is the difference between a business analyst and a data analyst resume?
A business analyst resume centres on requirements, stakeholders and process change. A data analyst resume centres on querying, modelling and reporting. The titles overlap in the market, so state your focus explicitly in the summary rather than leaving the reader to guess.
Do business analysts need SQL on their resume?
Increasingly yes. Even requirements-led roles now commonly list SQL as a screening term, so if you can genuinely write queries, include it. If you cannot, do not list it — it is one of the easiest claims to test in an interview.
How important is domain knowledge for a BA role?
Often decisive. Banking, insurance, healthcare and logistics each have their own regulations and vocabulary, and hiring managers strongly prefer someone who already speaks it. Name your domain early and use its actual terminology in your bullets.
