Software Engineer Resume Format — Example You Can Copy

Engineering resumes fail for two reasons: the layout breaks in the parser, or every bullet describes a feature rather than an outcome. This format fixes both, and keeps the tech stack where a screener can find it in two seconds.

Common questions

Should a software engineer resume be one page or two?

One page under roughly eight years of experience. Beyond that, two pages are accepted, but the first page still has to stand on its own — most screeners decide there and never scroll.

Where should I put my tech stack?

In a single-column Key Skills block near the top, grouped as languages, frameworks and infrastructure. Keep it out of sidebars and tables: those are what break in applicant tracking systems, and a stack the parser cannot read is a stack you do not get matched on.

Do side projects belong on an engineering resume?

Yes if they are real and running, especially with under three years of experience. One project with actual users and a link beats five half-finished tutorials. Once you have substantial professional work, let that lead instead.
