Software Tester Resume Format — QA Example You Can Copy
QA hiring splits hard between manual and automation, and the split decides your salary band. Your resume has to state which you are, name the framework, and show defect numbers rather than describing the testing process.

Use this format freeWhat recruiters look for in a software tester resume
- State manual, automation or both in the first line. These are different pay bands and different interview loops, and being vague gets you filtered from both.
- Name the automation stack precisely — Selenium with Java, Cypress, Playwright, Appium, TestNG, Cucumber. "Automation testing" without a framework is treated as unverified.
- Use QA's own numbers: test cases written, coverage percentage, defect leakage, execution time saved, defects logged per release. These describe you far better than listing test types.
- Mention API testing separately from UI testing. Many teams specifically need someone comfortable with Postman or REST Assured.
- Show CI integration if you have done it. A tester who can plug suites into Jenkins or GitHub Actions is worth noticeably more than one who runs them locally.
ATS keywords for software tester roles
Applicant tracking systems match your resume against the job description before a person ever opens it. These are the terms that show up most often in software tester postings — use the ones that are genuinely true of you, in your own bullet points rather than in a keyword dump.
Common questions
What is the difference between a manual and automation tester resume?
A manual QA resume centres on test case design, coverage, domain knowledge and defect quality. An automation resume centres on the framework, the language, the size of the suite and the execution time saved. Say which one you are in the first line, since the two are hired through different processes.
Which automation tool should I put on my resume?
The one you have genuinely built suites in. Selenium with Java remains the most requested in India, with Cypress and Playwright growing fast and Appium used for mobile. Listing four frameworks you have only followed tutorials in is easily exposed in a technical round.
How does a fresher get shortlisted for QA roles?
Build one real automation suite against a public website, put it on GitHub, and describe it on the resume with the number of cases and what it validates. Manual testing knowledge plus one demonstrable automation project beats a certificate with no code behind it.
