Resume Format for Freshers — With a Full Example
With no job history, a fresher resume is judged on how clearly it shows capability: projects, internships, coursework and results. This is the one-page structure campus recruiters and applicant tracking systems both read cleanly.

Everything below is plain, selectable text — the way an applicant tracking system needs to read it. Swap in your own details and the structure keeps working.
Your Name
Final-year B.Tech student in Computer Science with hands-on project work in Python and SQL. Built and shipped three academic projects, including a sales-forecasting model used for a department case study. Looking for an entry-level analyst role where structured problem-solving and fast learning matter.
Python · SQL · Excel · Data Analysis · Problem Solving · MS Office · Communication · Teamwork
- Built a sales-forecasting model in Python that predicted monthly demand within 8% of actuals across 12 months of test data
- Led a 4-member team project end to end, from problem definition through final presentation to faculty
- Automated a manual data-entry task during a 2-month internship, cutting the weekly effort from 6 hours to under 1
- Completed 3 certifications in SQL and data visualisation alongside full-time coursework

Use this format freeWhat recruiters look for in a fresher resume
- Put education at the top — it is your strongest credential right now, so do not bury it under an empty experience section.
- Projects count as experience. Describe them the way you would a job: what you built, what tools, what the outcome was.
- Numbers beat adjectives. "Handled a team" says little; "Led a 4-member team" is checkable and specific.
- Never write "Fresher seeking a challenging role in a reputed organisation." Recruiters have read it ten thousand times and it says nothing about you.
- One page. Always. A fresher resume that runs to two pages reads as padding.
- Include your CGPA only if it is above roughly 7.0 — otherwise let your projects carry the page.
ATS keywords for fresher roles
Applicant tracking systems match your resume against the job description before a person ever opens it. These are the terms that show up most often in fresher postings — use the ones that are genuinely true of you, in your own bullet points rather than in a keyword dump.
Common questions
What do I write in work experience if I have never worked?
Replace the section with Projects and Internships. Describe each one exactly as you would a job — the problem, what you built or did, the tools you used, and the result. Academic projects, freelance work, college fest organising and volunteer roles all count as real, describable work.
Should a fresher resume be one page or two?
One page, without exception. With under two years of experience there is not enough verified history to justify a second page, and recruiters read a two-page fresher resume as padding rather than substance.
Do I need to include a photo on an Indian fresher resume?
No, and it usually hurts. Many applicant tracking systems mis-parse resumes containing images, and most Indian corporate recruiters do not expect a photo. Leave it out unless the job posting specifically asks for one.
Is it okay to list a low CGPA?
If your CGPA is below roughly 7.0, leave it off and let your projects, internships and certifications carry the page. Omitting it is normal and not treated as hiding something; listing a weak number invites an early filter.
