Machining lines: machine, control, tolerance, output
A machinist is screened on the machine and its control, the tolerance and the output. Name the control (for example Fanuc or Siemens) only if you have run it.

Use the ones that are genuinely true of you, written into your own bullet points rather than dumped in a block. A trade test or a first week on the job settles any claim here, so an honest shorter list beats a long one.
What employers look for on ITI Machinist resumes
- List the machines by name. "Vertical milling, surface grinder, radial drill, shaper" is the qualification; "machine operator" is a guess the shop will resolve downwards.
- Say setting or operating, explicitly. Setting the job - choosing the holding method, locating the datum, picking the cutter - is the skill that changes the pay band.
- If you have touched a VMC, say at what level: operating a pre-set machine, editing offsets, or setting it from scratch. The three are very different and shops will ask.
- Use GD&T terms only if you genuinely read them from drawings. Flatness, parallelism and perpendicularity on a resume invite a question about a drawing during the interview.
- Give a tolerance you have worked to. It is the most checkable evidence of ability in a machine shop.
- Keep the layout plain and the length at one page. Manufacturing applications are usually processed through a tracking system that strips design.

What is the difference between the Machinist and Turner ITI trades?
Turner is centred on the lathe. Machinist covers a wider set of machine tools - milling, grinding, drilling, shaping - and typically more setting work. Employers hire against the machines on their floor rather than the trade title, so list the machines you have actually run regardless of which certificate you hold.
Do I need CNC or VMC experience as a machinist?
It widens the range of employers considerably, but conventional machining is still hired across tool rooms, maintenance shops and job work. State your CNC exposure at its true level - operating, editing offsets, or full setting - because the interview will establish it in about two questions.
How do I write experience if I only have ITI practical training?
Write the practicals as work: which machines, which operations, what material, what you were assessed on, and how dimensions were checked in the workshop. A machinist trade test covers exactly this ground, so an honest account of it is genuinely useful to the reader.
Should I include my ITI marks or percentage?
Include it if it is strong. Machine shop hiring leans on the trade test rather than marks, so a modest percentage is not a barrier - but a good one supports an application when you have no work history yet.
