ITI Apprentice Resume Format — Writing It for an Apprenticeship

After ITI, most candidates apply for an apprenticeship before a job, and send their ITI resume unchanged. An apprenticeship reader is asking different questions — are you eligible, can you be trained, and have you registered where the scheme requires — so the page should answer those first.

Which portal your application goes through

Trade apprenticeships for ITI pass candidates run under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), managed by the Directorate General of Training, through the Apprenticeship India portal at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in. Registering there gives you an apprentice registration ID, and establishments post their apprentice seats on the same portal — so put the ID on your resume.

Graduates and diploma holders apply under a different scheme, the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS), on nats.education.gov.in. If you hold an ITI certificate and are applying as a trade apprentice, NATS is not your portal. Naming the wrong scheme is a small sign that the notification was not read.

What an apprenticeship reader looks for

Eligibility first: the trade exactly as your certificate names it, NCVT or SCVT, and the year. Many apprenticeship notifications — especially from public-sector units — shortlist on ITI marks, so the percentage belongs on the page; check the notification for how it is calculated.

Then trainability. You have no job history yet, so the evidence is what you did in the ITI workshop: the machines you ran, the jobs you made to drawing, any on-the-job training or industrial visit. Write it as specifically as a work entry — the job, the machine, the measurement.

After the apprenticeship: the NAC line

Finishing the apprenticeship and passing its trade test earns the National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC). The Directorate General of Training rates the NAC above the National Trade Certificate, so once you have it, list it first — and write the apprenticeship itself like an employment entry: the department, the machines, what you did unsupervised by the end.

Apprentice resume lines to copy

Copy the lines that are true for you, replace every [bracket] and delete the rest. Every number should be one you can repeat in a practical test.

Certificate, marks and registration — the eligibility lines

Write the trade and the marks exactly as the marksheet shows them. The registration ID is the one the Apprenticeship India portal gave you.

Common questions

Do I need a resume for an apprenticeship?

The portal collects your details in its own form, but many establishments and public-sector drives ask for a resume or biodata at the interview or document check. Carry one, written for the apprenticeship rather than for a job.

Should I write my ITI marks?

Yes. Many apprenticeship notifications shortlist on ITI marks. Write the percentage exactly as your marksheet gives it; the ITI percentage calculator on this site works it out from an NCVT marksheet.

Resume or biodata for a PSU apprenticeship?

Follow the notification. If it asks for a biodata, send a biodata — the ITI biodata format page shows what belongs in one.

Can I apply before my ITI result?

Some notifications accept candidates whose result is awaited and some do not — read the eligibility clause. If it does, write "result awaited" with the exam month on your certificate line.
