Railway Apprentice Document Verification: Documents List and Rules
If your name is in the shortlist for a railway act apprenticeship, the next step is document verification (DV) at the division or workshop. This page lists the documents that railway notices ask for, and the rules that make candidates lose their seat at DV.

Shortlisting is on merit (the average of your 10th and ITI percentages), and more candidates than seats are called. For example, East Central Railway's Dhanbad division received 243 shortlisted applications, 1.5 times its vacancies, and called the first 156 in merit order for verification in May 2025.
At DV your original certificates are checked against the marks and details you entered online. The final merit list is published only after this check.
Documents the notices ask for
These come from two 2025 notices: ECR Dhanbad division (22 April 2025) and SECR Nagpur division (2025-26). Carry originals and one set of self-attested photocopies of each; the photocopies are kept by the office.

Rules that cost candidates their seat
ECR Dhanbad's notice says that without a valid date of birth certificate the candidature is cancelled. SECR Nagpur says documents not in the proper format from the competent authority lead to non-consideration.
Changes to details you filled in the online form are not accepted at DV, so check your application printout against your marksheets before you go. If a certificate is found false later, the railway can discharge you even during training.
Travel and fees
No travel or daily allowance is paid for DV, and ECR asked candidates to come ready to stay a day longer. The notices warn against anyone promising an apprenticeship for money; engagement is on merit only.
