NCVT is the national-level certificate and is recognised across states and by most PSU and railway apprenticeship schemes; SCVT is issued by the state council. What employers look for on ITI Fitter resumes
- Write NCVT or SCVT next to the trade name. It is the single most-asked screening question for ITI candidates, and leaving it blank gets your resume set aside rather than queried.
- Name the machines and the measuring instruments separately. "Machine operation" tells a supervisor nothing; "lathe, radial drill, bench grinder, vernier, micrometer, dial gauge" tells them exactly which bay you can be put in on day one.
- Treat your apprenticeship as a job, not a course. Give the company, the line or department, the shift pattern and what you produced or checked. An apprenticeship written as one line reads like you were standing around.
- Put a tolerance figure in if you genuinely worked to one. "Worked to plus or minus 0.05 mm" is the fitter equivalent of a sales number - it is checkable, and it separates you instantly.
- Keep it to one page and keep it plain text. Plant HR teams increasingly upload resumes into a tracking system, and a two-column design with icons often comes out of it scrambled.
- If you hold a forklift licence, a first-aid certificate, or safety training such as work-at-height or lock-out tag-out, list it. Those are hiring decisions in some plants, not nice-to-haves.

How do I write my apprenticeship if I mostly observed?
Write what you were actually exposed to, honestly and specifically - the department, the machines running there, what you assisted with, and what you were allowed to do unsupervised by the end. That is more convincing than an inflated claim, because a supervisor will find out in the first week anyway.
Is a photo needed on an ITI fitter resume?
For a corporate plant application, no - leave it out, because resume-parsing software frequently mis-reads pages containing images. The exception is a walk-in drive, where many companies ask for printed copies with a photo pasted. Carry both versions if you are attending a walk-in.
I have no experience at all. What goes in the experience section?
Replace it with Apprenticeship and Practical Training. List your ITI practical modules the way you would a job - which machines, which jobs you produced in the workshop, what you were assessed on. A trade test at the plant will confirm it, so describing your workshop work is both fair and useful.
