ITI Turner Resume Format — With a Full Sample

A turner is hired on two questions: what can you set up without help, and how close can you hold a dimension. A machine shop supervisor reads a turner resume looking for operations, tolerance and whether you have been near a CNC control. Everything else on the page is background, so this format puts those answers where they get read.

The line most ITI Turner resumes get wrong

Write NCVT or SCVT next to the trade. For turners, also make clear whether your lathe work has been conventional, CNC, or both - the two are hired into different bays and at different pay bands, and a resume that does not say assumes the lower one.

Skills and equipment to list on ITI Turner resumes

Use the ones that are genuinely true of you, written into your own bullet points rather than dumped in a block. A trade test or a first week on the job settles any claim here, so an honest shorter list beats a long one.

What employers look for on ITI Turner resumes

Common questions

Is Turner the same as Machinist?

They are separate ITI trades. Turner is built around the lathe - turning, facing, threading, boring. Machinist covers a wider spread of machine tools including milling, shaping and grinding. If you have worked both, say so plainly rather than letting the trade name decide for you, because shops hire against the machines they run.

Do I need CNC experience to get a turner job?

No. Conventional lathe work is still hired widely, especially in job-work and maintenance shops. CNC experience widens the range of employers and typically the pay band, so if you have any exposure at all - even operating a machine someone else set - say exactly that rather than leaving it out or overstating it.

How should I write my ITI workshop jobs if I have no employment yet?

As practical training, described operation by operation. Name the machines, the operations you were assessed on, the material you worked, and any dimensional accuracy standard applied in the workshop. That is verifiable and it is what a trade test will cover anyway.

Should I list the measuring instruments I use?

Yes. Vernier caliper, micrometer, bore gauge, depth gauge and thread gauges tell a supervisor you check your own work. Turners who do not check are the ones who produce scrap batches, so the list matters more than it looks.
