ITI Surveyor Resume Format — With a Full Sample

Survey work is hired by instrument. A site engineer reading your resume wants to know which instruments you can set up and read unaided, whether you have done setting-out on a live site or only measurement, and whether you can turn field readings into a drawing. Answer those three and the interview is a formality.

The line most ITI Surveyor resumes get wrong

Write NCVT or SCVT next to the trade, then list your instruments explicitly. "Survey work" tells a project nothing; a candidate who names dumpy level, theodolite and total station separately is telling them which of the three bays they can be put in on Monday. If your total station work was assisting rather than operating, say so - it is still worth listing and the honesty is checked in the first week regardless.

What employers look for on ITI Surveyor resumes

Common questions

Do I need total station experience to get a surveyor job?

It widens the range of employers a great deal, but chain, compass, level and theodolite work is still hired across building projects, land records and smaller contractors. State your total station exposure at its real level - operating, assisting, or trained-but-not-used - because it is verified on site almost immediately.

Is an ITI Surveyor certificate enough, or do I need a diploma?

The ITI trade is a recognised qualification for surveyor and chainman roles on construction and infrastructure projects. A civil diploma opens supervisory and quantity-surveying paths that the ITI alone usually does not. What separates ITI candidates in practice is instrument range and whether they can do setting-out.

How do I write survey experience when it was all ITI fieldwork?

Write the fieldwork as work: which surveys you conducted, the instruments used, how readings were booked and checked, and what you computed from them. Field practice in this trade is genuinely close to the job, so a precise description reads better than an empty experience section.

Should I list AutoCAD on a surveyor resume?

Yes if you can actually plot from field data and edit a drawing. It is a real differentiator, because most survey resumes stop at readings and leave the drafting to someone else. Do not list it if your exposure is limited to opening files.
