It maps directly onto process industry maintenance - refineries, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, fertiliser, power and food processing all run instrumentation teams. The trade is narrower than Electrician, which means fewer total vacancies but a more specific fit, so the resume should lean hard into measurement types and calibration practice.
Do I need PLC or DCS knowledge to get an instrumentation job?
Not for a field technician role, where calibration, loop checking and valve work carry most of the weight. PLC and DCS exposure widens your path toward control room and engineering support work, so state what you have genuinely done rather than listing the systems you have heard of.
How should I write calibration work on the resume?
