ITI Welder Apprenticeship: Where to Apply and What You Get
Welders are needed in railway workshops, shipyards and fabrication plants, and recent notices had welder apprentice slots at most large units. This page shows where ITI welders can apply.

In Central Railway's 2025 notification (RRC/CR/AA/2025), the Mumbai cluster had 120 Welder and Welder (Gas and Electric) slots: Matunga Workshop 51, Parel Workshop 41, TRS Kalyan 10, S&T Workshop Byculla 8, Wadi Bunder 6, TRS Kurla 3 and Kalyan Diesel Shed 1. In Western Railway's 2026 notice, 20 Mahalaxmi Welder slots were added to Parel Workshop.
Merit is the average of your 10th and ITI percentages; 10th must be 50% or more.
Mazagon Dock and other employers
Mazagon Dock's 2026 intake had 40 Welder seats for ITI holders in Group B, selected by a 100-question online exam. Fabrication and construction companies also take welder apprentices through apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
Stipend and training period
The minimum stipend for an ITI pass apprentice is ₹9,600 a month from 11 September 2025, with 10% more in the second year, under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2025. Railway training for ITI holders is one year. Mazagon Dock's Group B training is also one year.
How to apply
Register on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and keep your registration number. For railway apprenticeships, apply on your zone's Railway Recruitment Cell website when a notice opens; for Mazagon Dock, on mazagondock.in. Keep your 10th and ITI percentages ready, because railway merit is their average.
