Railway Apprentice Merit List: How It Is Made

Railway act apprentice selection has no exam, so the merit list decides everything. It is built from two numbers you already have: your 10th percentage and your ITI percentage. Here is how the Railway Recruitment Cells calculate it, using the rules in Central Railway's 2025 notification.

The formula

Merit is the simple average of your matriculation percentage and your ITI percentage. With 80.58% in 10th and 91.68% in ITI, your merit is (80.58 + 91.68) / 2 = 86.13. You need at least 50% aggregate in 10th to be eligible at all.

Which marks count

For 10th, the marks in all subjects are counted, not best of five or a group of subjects. For ITI, the average marks in the consolidated statement for all semesters, or the marks on the provisional National Trade Certificate, are used.

For boards that give grades, such as Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, RRC/CR takes the midpoint of each grade range and averages the subjects as if each were out of 100.

Ties and separate lists

If two candidates have the same merit, the older one is placed higher. If the dates of birth are also the same, the one who passed 10th earlier goes first.

There is no single list for the whole zone. Lists are made cluster or unit wise, trade wise and community wise, as many names as there are slots, in descending order of merit. A high score in a trade with few slots can still miss out, so your trade and unit choice matter.

Where the list is published

The Railway Recruitment Cell of your zone publishes the shortlist on its website, usually as a PDF with registration numbers and the date of document verification. Central Railway uses rrccr.com and Western Railway uses rrc-wr.com. Names on the list are provisional until verification and the medical check are done.
