ITI COPA Practical Exam Questions and Jobs

In the COPA practical you do tasks on a computer: format a document, build a spreadsheet, write a query or a web page. These are the tasks the DGT curriculum trains you for, with what the examiner checks in each.

How the practical is set and marked

COPA is one of the seven trades for which DGT sends one uniform practical paper to every ITI (DGT's guidelines for the All India Trade Test of July 2026). The pass mark is 60% of the practical marks, and the examiner checks your training portfolio before giving marks.

The tasks below come from the learning outcomes in the COPA CTS 2.0 curriculum (revised July 2022). Check which curriculum version your ITI follows, and save every file with the name the paper asks for.

COPA practical jobs and what is checked

Office tasks

Create and format a document in a word processor.

Typical: a letter or notice with headings, a table, bullets, page numbers and a mail merge. Checked: formatting matches the paper and the file is saved correctly.

How to say it: Practise mail merge; it is a common task.

Build a spreadsheet with formulas.

SUM, AVERAGE, IF, COUNTIF and VLOOKUP, a percentage column, sorting and a chart. Advanced tasks add pivot tables and a simple macro.

Make a presentation.

Slides with a title, bullet points, an image, transitions and a slide master if asked.

Database, web and programming

Create a database table in MySQL and query it.

CREATE TABLE with the right data types, INSERT rows, then SELECT with WHERE and ORDER BY. Show the output.

Make a web page with HTML and CSS.

Headings, a table, a list, a link, an image and a form, styled with CSS. Checked: it opens in the browser and matches the layout asked.

Add JavaScript to a page.

A simple calculation, form check or alert on a button click.

Write a small Python or Java program.

For example a program that finds the largest of three numbers, a factorial, or a simple loop. Run it and show the output.

System and network tasks

Install or set up an operating system and software.

Partition, install, create a user and install an application as asked.

Set up a small network and share a folder or printer.

Assign IP addresses, test with ping, and share a resource.

Show safe internet use.

Strong passwords, spotting a phishing mail, and safe online payment steps, from the cyber security and e-commerce outcomes.

Before you start the job

Copy the lines that are true for you, replace every [bracket] and delete the rest. Every number should be one you can repeat in a practical test.

A checklist to run through in the exam

Read every task and note the file names and folder asked for.
Save early and save often.
Do the tasks you know first, then come back.
Check spellings and formatting against the paper.
Show the output (query result, web page, program run) before the examiner moves on.
