ITI Fitter Apprenticeship: Where to Apply and What You Get
Fitter usually has more apprentice slots than any other trade, because railway workshops, shipyards and engineering plants all need fitters. This page shows where ITI fitters can apply and what recent notices offered.

In Central Railway's 2025 notification (RRC/CR/AA/2025), Fitter had slots at more units than any other trade. The Mumbai cluster alone had 566: Matunga Workshop 184, Wadi Bunder coaching depot 182, TRS Kurla 82, Parel Workshop 50, TRS Kalyan 42 and S&T Workshop Byculla 26. In Western Railway's 2026 notice, 45 Mahalaxmi Fitter slots were added to Parel Workshop.
Merit is the average of your 10th and ITI percentages; 10th must be 50% or more.
Mazagon Dock and other employers
Mazagon Dock's 2026 intake had 50 Fitter Structural seats in Group B, open to ITI Fitter holders, selected by a 100-question online exam. Engineering and auto companies also take fitter apprentices through apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
Stipend and training period
The minimum stipend for an ITI pass apprentice is ₹9,600 a month from 11 September 2025, with 10% more in the second year, under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2025. Railway training for ITI holders is one year. Mazagon Dock's Group B training is also one year.
How to apply
Register on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and keep your registration number. For railway apprenticeships, apply on your zone's Railway Recruitment Cell website when a notice opens; for Mazagon Dock, on mazagondock.in. Keep your 10th and ITI percentages ready, because railway merit is their average.
