Graphic Designer Resume Format — Example You Can Copy
Designers lose shortlists to their own resumes more than any other field, because a heavily designed CV is exactly what applicant tracking systems fail to read. Keep the resume plain and let the portfolio carry the craft.

- Do not design the resume itself. Multi-column layouts, icons and text inside images are the top reasons a designer's CV comes back blank from a parser. Keep it single-column and plain.
- Put the portfolio link in your contact line, at the top. It is the single most important link on the page and it must survive a printout as readable text, not sit behind a button.
- Name your tools exactly — Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Figma, After Effects. "Adobe Creative Suite" alone misses the specific term recruiters search.
- Say what kind of design you do: brand identity, packaging, UI, motion, print. These are distinct hiring tracks and a generalist framing gets filtered out of all of them.
- Attach outcomes where they exist — retail reach, turnaround time, engagement lift. Design work is rarely quantified on resumes, so doing it stands out immediately.
ATS keywords for graphic designer roles
Applicant tracking systems match your resume against the job description before a person ever opens it. These are the terms that show up most often in graphic designer postings — use the ones that are genuinely true of you, in your own bullet points rather than in a keyword dump.
Common questions
Should a graphic designer's resume be visually designed?
No. Send a plain single-column resume and let your portfolio show the craft. Heavily designed CVs with columns, icons and text baked into images routinely come out empty or scrambled in applicant tracking systems, which means a strong designer never reaches the human reader.
Where should I put my portfolio link?
In the contact line at the very top, written as readable text such as yourname.com or behance.net/yourname. For design roles it is the most-clicked item on the page, and hiding it at the bottom or behind a styled button costs you views.
How do I show results as a designer?
Use reach and efficiency: how many outlets or users saw the work, how many assets you produced per month, how much turnaround time a system you built saved, or engagement movement on campaigns you designed. Most design resumes carry no numbers at all, so even two make yours read as more senior.
