- Name your articleship firm and the assignments you actually ran, not just the departments you sat in. For anyone under five years post-qualification, articleship quality is the main signal.
- State your specialisation clearly — audit, direct tax, indirect tax, or finance and controllership. CA hiring is segmented and a generalist framing weakens all of them.
- Mention attempts only if you cleared in the first or second attempt. It is commonly asked and volunteering a strong record helps; a longer record is better discussed in person.
- Give client turnover ranges and industries. "Audited listed manufacturing clients up to ₹400 crore" tells a partner your exposure level in one line.
- List the ERP you have worked in — SAP, Oracle, Tally Prime. For industry roles this often matters more than audit methodology.
ATS keywords for chartered accountant roles
Applicant tracking systems match your resume against the job description before a person ever opens it. These are the terms that show up most often in chartered accountant postings — use the ones that are genuinely true of you, in your own bullet points rather than in a keyword dump.
Common questions
What should a fresher CA put on a resume?
Your articleship firm, the specific assignments you handled and the client industries and sizes, along with your CA attempt record if it is strong. For a fresher CA, articleship is the entire experience section and should be described assignment by assignment, not as a list of departments.
Should I mention how many attempts I took to clear CA?
Mention it when you cleared in the first or second attempt, since it is routinely asked and a strong record works in your favour. If it took longer, leave it off the resume and handle the question in the interview, where you can give context.
How do I move from audit to an industry finance role?
Reframe the resume around what industry finance teams need — MIS, month-end close, Ind AS application, budgeting and ERP work — and put your audit assignments underneath as evidence of controls knowledge. Name the ERP you have used, since industry roles screen on it heavily.
