Driver Biodata Format for Job — Sample, Blank Form and Lines to Copy
Whoever hires a driver reads the licence before the name. A general job biodata buries it under education; a driver's biodata puts the licence number, class and validity at the top, then the vehicles you have driven and the routes you know.

When this format is the right one
Use it for a company or staff car driver, a personal or family driver, a cab, school van or bus driver, a goods-vehicle or delivery driver, and a truck driver. Families, transport contractors and most companies ask for a biodata rather than a resume for these posts.
Copy-ready lines for a driver biodata
Copy the lines that are true for you, replace every [bracket] and delete the rest. The employer will look at your licence and may give you a driving test, so every vehicle and number you write should be one you can show.
The licence line — put it at the top
An Indian driving licence number is the state code, the RTO code, the year of issue and a 7-digit number, and an employer can check its status on the Parivahan Sarathi website. Copy it exactly as printed, with the class of vehicle and the valid-till date.
- Driving Licence No.: [MH12 20XX XXXXXXX] | Class: LMV | Valid till: [DD/MM/YYYY] | RTO: [Pune]
- Driving Licence No.: [ ] | Class: LMV + Transport ([HGMV / HPMV]) | Valid till: [ ] | Badge No.: [if issued]
- Driving experience: [8] years | Accident-free: [8] years | Pending challans: none
- Vehicles driven: [Maruti Dzire, Toyota Innova Crysta, Tempo Traveller 12-seater] — manual and automatic

LMV or transport licence — which to write
On 6 November 2024 a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court held that an LMV licence covers transport vehicles with a gross vehicle weight up to 7,500 kg. Medium and heavy vehicles still need the transport class. Write the class exactly as printed and let the employer judge.
- Light vehicles: [Maruti Eeco, Tata Ace] on an LMV licence — local goods delivery, [20–25] drops a day
- Heavy vehicles: [Tata 1109, 10-wheeler truck] on a transport licence (HGMV) — interstate [Maharashtra–Gujarat–Rajasthan]
Duty lines for your experience — pick the job you held

Blank driver biodata form — copy into Word
Select the form, copy it into Word or Google Docs, and fill the blanks. Keep a monospaced font such as Courier New so the colons stay lined up, then print it on A4.

Number, class of vehicle, valid-till date and issuing RTO — in that order, on one or two lines. Families and transport managers check the licence first and often stop reading if it is missing or expired. If your licence is due for renewal within a few months, write the renewal date too; it answers the question before it is asked.
"Eight years' driving experience" is what every driver writes. "Innova Crysta and Tempo Traveller, Pune–Mumbai–Nashik routes, 3,000 km a month" is what gets you the test drive. Name the models, say manual or automatic, and list the cities and highways you know without a map.
Accident-free years and no pending challans are the strongest lines on a driver's biodata, and employers can check challans online against your vehicle or licence. Write them only if they are true — one line, with the number of years.
A company driver keeps trip sheets and fuel logs; a family driver handles school runs and errands; a school van driver carries children on a fixed route; a truck driver handles e-way bills and loading. One or two duty lines per employer, in the words of that job, tell the reader you have done this exact work before.
A copy of the driving licence (both sides), Aadhaar (self-attested, first eight digits masked if you prefer), a police verification certificate if you have one, an experience letter from your last employer, and two passport-size photographs. Carry the original licence to the interview — it will be asked for before the test drive.
What to get right
- Put the licence line first, with the class and the valid-till date. An employer who has to hunt for it assumes it is missing.
- Name the vehicles you have actually driven. The test drive will be in one of them, so write only what you can drive in front of the employer.
- List routes and cities. For outstation and staff-transport jobs, route knowledge is often the deciding line.
- State accident-free years and pending challans honestly — both can be checked online.
- Write the class exactly as printed on the licence. LMV and transport are different classes, and the employer needs the one the vehicle requires.
- Sign the declaration in ink and carry the original licence to the interview.
Common questions
What should a driver biodata contain?
Post applied for, name, father's name, date of birth, then the driving licence number, class, validity and RTO, years of driving, accident-free record, vehicles driven and routes known; then languages, address, mobile, education, experience with duties, documents enclosed and a signed declaration.
How do I write my licence details in a biodata?
On one line: licence number exactly as printed (state code, RTO code, year of issue and a 7-digit number), the class of vehicle (for example LMV, or LMV + Transport), the valid-till date and the issuing RTO. Add the badge number only if your state issued one.
Can an LMV licence holder apply for a transport driver job?
For lighter vehicles, often yes: a Supreme Court Constitution Bench held on 6 November 2024 that an LMV licence covers transport vehicles with a gross vehicle weight up to 7,500 kg. Trucks and buses above that still need the transport class. Write your class as printed and check what the vehicle needs.
Is a driver biodata different from a driver resume?
Yes. A biodata leads with personal particulars and the licence, and ends in a signed declaration — it is what families, transport contractors and most companies ask for. A resume suits corporate fleet or logistics roles advertised online; the licence and vehicle lines still go near the top.
What documents should I attach to a driver biodata?
A copy of your driving licence (both sides), Aadhaar, a police verification certificate if you have one, an experience letter from your last employer and two passport-size photographs.
