Security Guard Interview Questions and Answers
A security agency, society or company interviewing a guard wants to know three things: will you stay alert, will you follow the rules at the gate, and will you act calmly in an emergency. These are the questions guards are commonly asked in India, with short answers you can adapt.

Questions and how to answer
Keep answers short and true. The interviewer is judging how calm and clear you are.
| Question | How to answer |
|---|---|
| Tell me about yourself. | Name, age, where you live, education, any past guard or army or police experience, languages you speak, and that you can do the shift asked. |
| What are the duties of a security guard? | Control entry and exit, check and record visitors and vehicles, patrol the premises, watch for fire, theft or damage, report incidents, and help in an emergency. |
| A visitor refuses to show ID or sign the register. What will you do? | Politely explain the rule, do not let them in, inform the supervisor or the resident, and note it in the register. Stay calm and never use force. |
| What will you do if you see a fire? | Raise the alarm, call the fire brigade (101) and the supervisor, help people leave by the stairs, and use the right extinguisher only if the fire is small and you are trained. |
| How will you stay alert on night duty? | Sleep well before duty, patrol at fixed times, keep the register updated, avoid using the phone for anything but duty, and report on time. |
| Someone is acting suspiciously near the gate. What will you do? | Watch them, note the time and description, inform the supervisor, and call the police (112) if there is a threat. Do not leave the gate unguarded. |
| Have you done security guard training? | Say what training you did and where. Under the PSARA model rules, guard training is 100 hours in class and 60 hours in the field, and the agency arranges it. |
| Are you ready for police verification? | Yes. Under PSARA the agency must check a guard's character and antecedents, so police verification is normal. |
| Why should we hire you? | You are disciplined, honest and punctual, can do the shift asked, and will follow the site rules. |
Eligibility questions you may be asked
Under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005, a private security guard must be between 18 and 65 years old. The model rules also set physical standards such as height and eyesight, and the agency tells you which ones it checks. Ex-servicemen and ex-police need a shorter condensed training course.
Shifts and pay questions
Ask clearly whether the job is 8-hour or 12-hour duty, how many days a month, the weekly off, and how overtime is paid. Compare offers for the same duty length.
Fees and fake offers
A genuine agency does not take money to give you a job. If someone asks for a fee to place you, treat it as a warning sign.
