Questions and how to answer

Most interviews add a short typing test and an Excel or Word task on the spot.

QuestionHow to answer
Tell me about yourself.Name, education, computer course (COPA, DCA, MS-CIT or similar), software you use, typing speed, and why you want this job.
What is your typing speed?Give your honest words per minute in English, and Hindi or Marathi if you type them. Accuracy matters as much as speed.
Which Excel formulas do you use?SUM, AVERAGE, IF, COUNTIF and VLOOKUP, plus sorting, filters and percentage. Mention a pivot table if you can make one.
How do you make a letter or notice in Word?Set the page, type, format headings, add a table if needed, check spelling, save with a clear file name and take a print preview before printing.
What is mail merge?A Word feature that prints the same letter with different names and addresses taken from an Excel list.
How do you keep data entry accurate?Check the source, type carefully, use Excel checks such as data validation, and recheck totals before saving.
The printer is not printing. What will you check?Power and cable or Wi-Fi, paper and ink or toner, whether it is the default printer, and clear the print queue.
How do you organise files on a computer?Folders by month or department, clear file names with dates, and a backup on a pen drive or cloud as the office allows.
Do you know Tally?Answer honestly. If yes, mention voucher entry and GST basics; if no, say you can learn.

Shortcuts worth knowing

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+S, Ctrl+P, Ctrl+F, and in Excel Ctrl+Arrow keys to jump to the end of data. Being quick with these shows in the practical task.

Fees and fake offers

A genuine employer does not take money for a computer operator job. If someone asks for a registration or training fee to place you, treat it as a warning sign.
