How a real remote job looks
A named company with a website and an office address, an interview (often on video), an offer letter with your pay, hours and notice period, and pay into your bank account on a fixed date. The company may ask you to sign for a laptop or headset it provides; it does not ask you to buy one from it or to pay a deposit.
The "work from home without investment" scams
Most fake work-from-home offers in Mumbai follow a few patterns: "like videos" or "rate hotels" tasks that pay small amounts and then ask for a deposit; data entry or form filling with a registration fee and a later "penalty" for errors; product packing or pen assembly at home that needs a kit fee; and "part-time" jobs that are really recruitment for a payment chain. In December 2023 the central government (MeitY) blocked more than 100 websites running task-based job frauds.
The rule: if you have to pay anything to start or to withdraw your earnings, it is not a job. If you have already paid, stop, keep the screenshots and receipts, and report on 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in.
