NOC for Job Format: No Objection Certificate Samples to Copy
A no objection certificate (NOC) is a letter from your current employer saying it has no objection to you applying for or taking up another job, a government post or a course. There is no single government-prescribed format for private employers; a few parts are expected. Below are samples you can copy, and a letter to request one.

When an NOC is asked for
Government recruitments often ask employed candidates to submit an NOC from their current employer, sometimes in a format printed in the notification. Some private employers also ask for one, as do universities for working students. If the notification gives its own format, use that instead of any sample.
What an NOC should contain
On company letterhead, signed by an authorised person.
| Part | What to write |
|---|---|
| Date and reference | Date of issue and reference number |
| Employee details | Full name, employee ID, designation, department and date of joining |
| Purpose | The job, post or course the NOC is for |
| Statement | That the employer has no objection to the application |
| Conditions | Any condition, such as serving notice or being relieved only on selection |
| Signature | Name, designation and signature, with company seal if used |
NOC or relieving letter?
An NOC is given while you still work there, before you apply or join elsewhere. A relieving letter is given when you leave, after resignation and notice.

Common questions
What is an NOC for a job?
A letter from your current employer stating that it has no objection to you applying for or taking up another job, post or course.
Is an NOC mandatory for a private job?
Usually not. Some private employers ask for it; government recruitments more often ask employed candidates for one. Check the job notification.
Who signs the NOC?
An authorised person such as the HR manager or head of department, on company letterhead.
What if my employer refuses an NOC?
Ask HR for the reason in writing. For a government post, check the notification for what it allows employed candidates to submit at the application stage and at document verification.
