ITI Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship: Where to Apply and What You Get

In Central Railway's 2025 notification (RRC/CR/AA/2025), Mechanic Diesel slots in the Mumbai cluster added up to 120: Parel Workshop 51, Kurla Diesel Shed 36 and Kalyan Diesel Shed 33. In South East Central Railway's Nagpur division document verification schedule of August 2025, 550 diesel mechanic candidates were called for verification, one of the largest lists after electrician and COPA.
Selection is on merit: the average of your 10th and ITI percentages, with 10th at 50% or more.
Mazagon Dock and other employers
Mazagon Dock's 2026 Group B list for ITI holders did not include Mechanic Diesel, so check each notice's trade list before you apply. Bus depots, transport companies, generator and earth-moving equipment dealers also engage diesel mechanic apprentices through apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
Stipend and training period
The minimum stipend for an ITI pass apprentice is ₹9,600 a month from 11 September 2025, with 10% more in the second year, under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2025. Railway training for ITI holders is one year.
How to apply
Register on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and keep your registration number. For railway apprenticeships, apply on your zone's Railway Recruitment Cell website when a notice opens. Keep your 10th and ITI percentages ready, because railway merit is their average.
