ITI Machinist Apprenticeship: Where to Apply and What You Get
Railway workshops need machinists to make and repair wheels, axles and loco parts, so railway notices are the main route for ITI Machinist apprentices. Here is where the slots were and how to apply.

In Central Railway's 2025 notification (RRC/CR/AA/2025), Machinist slots in the Mumbai cluster added up to 60: Parel Workshop 25, Matunga Workshop 24, TRS Kalyan 5, S&T Workshop Byculla 5 and Kalyan Diesel Shed 1. In South East Central Railway's Nagpur division document verification schedule of August 2025, 25 machinist candidates were called for verification.
Selection is on merit: the average of your 10th and ITI percentages, with 10th at 50% or more.
Mazagon Dock and other employers
Mazagon Dock's 2026 Group B list for ITI holders did not include Machinist. Private engineering units, CNC job shops and auto component makers engage machinist apprentices through apprenticeshipindia.gov.in.
Stipend and training period
The minimum stipend for an ITI pass apprentice is ₹9,600 a month from 11 September 2025, with 10% more in the second year, under the Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2025. Railway training for ITI holders is one year.
How to apply
Register on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and keep your registration number. For railway apprenticeships, apply on your zone's Railway Recruitment Cell website when a notice opens. Keep your 10th and ITI percentages ready, because railway merit is their average.
