What is an ATS and why does my resume need to pass it? +

An Applicant Tracking System is software employers use to read and file applications before a human sees them. It converts your file into plain text, so anything it cannot read is effectively invisible. Multi-column layouts, text inside images, tables, headers and footers, and unusual fonts are the usual causes of a resume arriving scrambled or half-empty. A single-column layout with ordinary headings survives that conversion intact.

Is CVCrisp free? +

Building, editing, switching templates and checking your ATS score are free and unlimited. The on-screen preview carries a watermark. A single one-time payment removes the watermark and unlocks the PDF and DOCX download — the exact amount in your own currency is shown before you pay. There is no subscription and no recurring charge.

Which file format should I send — PDF or Word? +

A single-column PDF with selectable text is the safest default anywhere in the world, and it is what LinkedIn, Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Naukri and Seek all read cleanly. Avoid photos, tables and two-column designs unless the employer asks for them. Send Word only when the posting specifically requests it — some agencies and portals still do, which is why every purchase includes an editable DOCX alongside the PDF.

Should a resume be one page or two? +

One page is the norm for freshers and for anyone with under roughly eight years of experience. Two pages are acceptable for longer careers, and for academic or research roles. CVCrisp fits your content to a single page automatically by adjusting type size and spacing together, and tells you when the content genuinely needs a second page rather than shrinking it until it is unreadable.

Can I edit the resume after downloading it? +

Yes. Every purchase includes an editable DOCX alongside the PDF, so you can open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and change anything. You can also return to CVCrisp and re-download as often as you like on the same device.

What happens to my resume data? +

Your file is never uploaded. PDF and Word files are opened and read inside your own browser. The extracted text is sent once to our server and on to an AI provider so it can be organised into structured fields, then returned — it is not written to any database. Your resume itself is saved only in your browser's local storage, on your device. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy.

Which file types can I upload? +

PDF and Word (.doc and .docx). A scanned or photographed resume will not work, because there is no selectable text to read — if your PDF is an image, you will need to type the content in instead, or start from scratch.
